Experience the grace and beauty of Japan as we celebrate the start of spring with our Cherry Blossom Festival Community Day at the Worcester Art Museum. Join us for Japanese-themed music, games, art making, performances, and more!
While you’re here, view exquisite examples of Japanese art, including a screen from the Edo Period (1615-1868) depicting pines and plum blossoms (on view January 28-May 3) and 19th century artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi’s magnificent prints and paintings (on view Feb 28-May 24). Free with Museum admission.

11am-5:00pm: Art Activity: Origami (recommended ages 5+)
11am-5:00pm: Art Activity: Painted Cherry Blossoms
11am-5:00pm: Art Activity: Calligraphy (recommended ages 5+)
11:30am-1pm; 1:30-3pm: Art Cart: Interact with a museum educator, and play with board games, Japanese shogi, and samurai armor touch pieces.
11:30am-1pm; 1:30-3pm: Art Cart: Interact with a museum educator, and read Samurai books, try on armor, and complete a variety of activity sheets.
11am-12:30; 1-3pm: Art Cart: Interact with a museum educator and see miniature reproduction Samurai armor full scale reproduction Samurai swords.
12:00 + 3:30pm: Iaido Demonstration: Iaido is the art of drawing the Japanese sword. Sensei Gordon Fisher will demonstrate this skill. Program repeats twice.
2:00pm: Shintaido Demo and Participation: Shintaido is an holistic art of body movement, which draws on Japanese martial arts, meditation, and artistic creativity. Joseph Zawielski will lead the group.
1:00pm + 2:30pm: Folk Tales from Japan: Join the award-winning Motoko for tales about Samurai legend, cherry blossoms, and the Japanese language.
1:00-2:00pm: Public Tour
10am-3pm: Sip: Enjoy a variety of snack items for sale at Sip. Credit Cards welcome.
