Summer Art Series At Tower Hill Botanic Garden

Summer art series at Tower Hill aims to inspire.

Tower Hill Botanic Garden is offering the public a chance to see nature through the eyes of artists this summer during a series of exhibits designed to bring visitors closer to plants and art and to enjoy the marrying of the two fields.

Watercolor painter Barry Van Dusen’s “The Nature of Tower Hill” is on display through June 26.  Over the course of one year, he visited Tower Hill 23 times, painting more than 40 watercolors of flowers, birds, insects, and landscapes. An internationally recognized wildlife artist living in Central Massachusetts, his paintings have been featured in numerous publications and he has illustrated a variety of natural history books and pocket guides in association with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Aimee Baldwin, a self-taught artist and sculptor, presents her artist in residence solo show, “Enduring Blooms,” from June 28 to July 24 at Tower Hill. A self-taught artist from the Bay Area who specializes in what she calls “vegan taxidermy,” Baldwin creates botanical and bird sculpture from crepe paper.
Her work was most recently featured in Gardens Illustrated Magazine. Her exhibit presents an herbarium of her sculpture, showing a selection of flowers and plants found in the last days of summer during an inspiring visit to Tower Hill. See her work at vegantaxidermy.com.

San Francisco artist Tiffanie Turner, originally from New Hampshire, brings her extremely large scale paper representations of flowers to Tower Hill from Aug. 9 to Sept. 18. Turner, who has been profiled in Oprah and Vogue magazines, explores nature and botany in her art. “My work stems from my background as an architect, particularly my interest in how things are made and the use of repetitive elements, along with my lifelong obsession with flowers and botanical drawings,” she says.
