My 3 kids vary in age from 5-21. With one away at college in Hawaii, one going to college in Maine this fall and one in preschool, our family movie nights now require lots of cell phone data, texts and phone calls to coordinate. We love to watch movies together but with the distance between us we now utilize Skype to be “together” for our movie nights! Streaming a movie we all agree on and watching together on Vudu while enjoying fun movie snacks helps us feel closer together.
I recently headed to my local Walmart to check out their new Walmart Family Plus Plan, which features Unlimited Talk, Text, & up to 10GB of 4G LTE data for only $49.88 per month. I kept going over my monthly data limit and I needed something affordable with the amount of data I use. There’s also an added PLUS of one free new release movie rental on VUDU ($7 value) every month per line!
There was a great selection of phones to choose from, Cool Pad Rogue, HTC Desire 626s, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, LG G Stylo, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime or the Alcatel Fierce XL. Prices varied from $19.88-$179.00. All of the phones were on Rollback pricing so they were a great deal!
I chose the Cool Pad Rogue $19.88 (Rollback from $39.83) with touch screen, 2MP camera, and Android operating system.
All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to http://cbi.as/3edbs or your local Walmart for current pricing.
I also grabbed a “Starter Kit” (also on Rollback for $19.88 from $25). Which includes a SIM card and quick and easy instructions to get your phone and plan set-up. My out-of-pocket expense was really low compared to other prepaid carriers. For under $45 I got the phone and starter kit, since Family Mobile bills you later, I only had to pay $19.88 (the starter kit covers your first month of service) when I signed up!
One of our favorite aspects of our movie nights is the snacks! Snack Necklaces are a quick and fun treat to make together. Using string, cookies, cereal, pretzels, and gummies everyone can customize their own snack!
I grabbed a few of our favorite snacks-with-holes and cut a few lengths of string.
This activity is great for any age. You can string on as much or as little of each snack as you would like.
Snack necklace making is serious business!
Someone couldn’t wait to start munching on his necklace….
Once you’re done stringing your snacks tie a knot in the end of your necklace and you’re ready for family movie night!
Family Movie Night gives us something to fun plan together and with a free VUDU New Release Movie rental each month (we stream VUDU on our TV using our ROKU) as part of the Walmart Family Mobile Plus plan it’s a great way to save a few extra bucks in the process! The 10BG of 4G LTE data really comes in handy to Skpe with Owen’s big sister in Hawaii during movie night, so we experience the movie together. This month we will be watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens! Even though we can’t always be together we can still enjoy some family time.
What kind of movie night will you have? Are there any special snacks, meals or treats you have for your family movie night?
Such fun! Popcorn is always a must on movie night.

How cute that you guys still watch movies together sometimes. 🙂 My kids would love that idea of stringing food on the necklaces, what a great idea!
Snack necklaces sound good to me! Your little guy looks like he’s pro at making them. So fun. What a great way for you to spend family time together even with everyone apart! #client
Thanks Stephanie, He had a blast making them!
I love the idea of using Skype to still watch movies together! We usually watch Grey’s Anatomy every week and the whole time our daughter is texting “Can you believe that?” or “What just happened!?” It makes us feel closer when the kids are all going different directions!
We love our family movie nights. It’ll be awhile before our kids are out of the house, but I love how you still find a way to enjoy the time with everyone, even when they aren’t in your home! Great job 🙂
Aw. He looks like he is really loving those snacks!
